VoIP Still Not Top Dog

Even though there have been some substantial advancements in IP telephony, a lot of businesses are still not 100% confident about switching completely to a VoIP system. One of the reasons for the hesitation is that if the power goes out, so does the internet phone service. With most of today’s VoIP systems, you get about eight hours of standby service if the system is equipped with a backup battery. The older systems will stay on longer and do not need a back up battery. If your business does not have a fast, reliable internet connection, your call quality can deteriorate. This is particularly true if there is heavy data traffic at the same time as your call. With enough bandwidth, however, your VoIP call quality should be about the same as with a landline phone. Lastly, a lot of businesses have already paid for their copper wire phone systems which are pretty extensive so they want to use it to the full capacity. It would not necessarily apply to businesses that are starting out.

  1. One of the disadvantages of internet phone applications is that the security is not as great as it should be. Make sure to check out different companies.

  2. I have had numerous occasions when I lost phone services with power outages. The quickness other times outweighs that though.
